About Me

Hi, I'm Allison! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC). I work with adults navigating trauma, anxiety, life transitions, grief, and traumatic brain injuries. I went to the University of Wisconsin - Madison to study Rehabilitation psychology and studio art which evolved into attending Naropa University for a M.A. in Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy.

What Therapy is to Me

I believe therapy offers us an opportunity to slow down, regulate, get curious, and explore what's underneath. My role is not to fix, but to create a collaborative space where you can uncover what's already within you, recognize your resilience, and move forward with greater confidence and self-understanding. Through genuine connection, thoughtful curiosity, and creative exploration, you can cultivate growth.

How I got Here

Art therapy was introduced to me in high school when I was a senior. I “rebelled” and I took two art class electives instead of the engineering prep course and AP calculus that I was expected to take. In one of these, my teacher came up to me at the end of a collaborative project and said, “this is for you,” and gave me an article about art therapy. It sounded cool, but I didn’t give it much thought.

Simultaneously, my other art teacher encouraged me to take an art class my first semester of college. I didn’t think I was good enough to do art in college. Enrollment came along and the dance class I wanted was full, but sure enough, there was an evening art class. I enrolled and never looked back.

Finally, the director of the campus art studio saw my project at the craft table during freshman welcome week and offered me a job. I went on to work at the studio all 4 years of undergrad where I had the opportunity to learn to work with other mediums and create an art inclusion collaboration with LovInc, a local nonprofit organization.

There are more experiences that come to mind in retrospect throughout my upbringing, but these are the core moments that gave me the encouragement and confidence at a pivotal decision making time in my life, to become an Art Therapist.
